Bensaude Hotels acquires Convento da Alpendurada investing in the Douro region

Institutional

Bensaude Hotels has just acquired Convento da Alpendurada, in Marco de Canaveses, an investment of around 7.5 million euros that marks the group's entry into the Douro region. The new unit will be the brand's second in mainland Portugal and the eleventh in its portfolio.

This initiative will strengthen the corporate image of the Bensaude Hotels brand, leader in the Azorean market, and consequently of the Bensaude Group as one of the main and oldest Portuguese business groups.

With this acquisition, the goal is to develop a high-end and distinctive hotel product, based on the unique location and characteristics of this asset, with around 100 rooms and 10 private villas (for longer stays), with the ambition of establishing it as one of the benchmark products in the Douro region.

The project to be developed on the property includes the rehabilitation of the Convento da Alpendurada, classified as a Monument of Public Interest, and is based on three fundamental pillars: accommodation, gastronomy and well-being. There will be a strong connection to local agricultural production, the promotion of regional products and also the promotion of activities involving the river.
