Parque Terra Nostra submits its candidacy for Tree of the Year 2026
AwardsParque Terra Nostra has submitted the nomination of one of its most iconic specimens—the Norfolk Island Pine (Araucaria heterophylla), affectionately known as the “Lady of the Park”— for the "2026 Tree of the Year contest".
Standing 52 meters (171 feet) tall, the “Lady of the Park” is among the tallest Araucarias in the world. A living testament to the Azores’ natural and cultural heritage, this tree has 200 years of history. She rises majestically in the heart of Furnas Valley, elevated by the thermal vapors that surround her.
The Tree of the Year contest values more than just size or age. It highlights the history of each tree and its connections with people and the community—a criterion that makes the “Lady of the Park” stand out with her unmistakable presence.
