Small and remote, Corvo Island is the tip of an enormous marine volcano known as Monte Gordo.
Its main attraction is Lagoa do Caldeirão, on the bottom of the crater where you can observe nine islets, one for each of the Azores Islands.
It was here that the Portuguese film of director Gonçalo Tocha “É na Terra não é na Lua” was shot and won the IX DocLisboa – International Cinema Festival competition. Filmed throughout four years, “É na Terra e não na Lua”, of 180 minutes, “is a sort of contemporary archive in motion” of “a micro community, closed in itself”, says Gonçalo Tocha.
This documentary got the director an honorable mention at the LocarnoFilm Festival of 2011 in Switzerland and greatly contributes to raising awareness about this small Azorean Island.
